Shade structures, shelters planned for roads and bus stops

Ulsan's Buk-gu district will push ahead with a lifestyle-focused heat-relief facility installation project in the second half of the year, securing disaster safety special grants from the Ministry of Interior and Safety for the second consecutive half-year period.

With heat waves growing longer due to abnormal climate patterns, Buk-gu has secured 287 million won ($208,000) in heat-relief project funding for the second half of the year to create shaded spaces at major public transit stops and key streets frequented by residents.

The project covers three areas: installing heat-shade structures along major roadsides, setting up smart-shelter-type bus stops, and upgrading shade canopies at existing bus stops.

In the first half of the year, Buk-gu used 303 million won in disaster safety special grants to install 24 roadside heat-shade structures and 29 air-conditioning units at senior centers and other designated cooling shelters.
