The Daegu Happiness Foundation announced Friday that it will host a two-day relay policy forum at C-quad of the Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center on Sept. 3 and 4, organized under the auspices of the Daegu city government to explore new directions in women, family and youth policy for the region.

The forum was organized to identify proactive and effective policy alternatives in the areas of women, caregiving and youth — fields most closely tied to the daily lives of Daegu residents — amid rapid changes including the launch of the ninth elected-term administration and advances in AI technology.

The first day, Thursday, will focus on the theme "Charting the Path for Gender Equality Policy in the Ninth Elected Term."

With Keimyung University professor Heo Gyeong-mi serving as moderator, the session will examine key gender equality issues in the Daegu region, including women's employment, the state of gender-based violence and child-care services. Presentations will be delivered by Ji Hyeon-ju, director of the Daegu Women's Human Resources Development Center, on transforming women's employment policy; Hwang Dong-jin, associate research fellow at the Daegu Happiness Foundation, on the realities of gender-based violence and the challenges ahead; and Choe Min-yeong, director of the Daegu Metropolitan Child Care Regional Support Center, on the current state and challenges of child-care policy in Daegu.

Park Eun-mi, senior research fellow at the North Gyeongsang Province Women's Policy Development Institute, Song Gyeong-in, head of the Daegu Women's Hotline, and Lim Ji-yeong, professor at Kyungpook National University, will join as designated discussants to debate effective policy directions.

The second day, Friday, will take up the theme "Finding New Paths for Counseling At-Risk Youth in Daegu in the AI Era," examining leading approaches to applying generative AI — a topic of growing interest — to youth counseling and assessing the situation facing at-risk youth.

Daegu Haany University professor Park Dong-gyun will chair the session, with presentations by Kim Min-ji, associate research fellow at the Daegu Happiness Foundation, on support conditions and challenges for at-risk youth in Daegu, and Yeungnam University professor Lee Yun-ju on the use of generative AI in counseling.

Kwon An-na, associate research fellow at the Ulsan Welfare and Family Promotion Social Service Agency, and Min Gyeong-il, director of the Daegu Buk-gu Youth Counseling and Welfare Center, are set to follow with in-depth discussion.

Choe Hui-jae, acting president of the Daegu Happiness Foundation, said the relay forum would serve as a meaningful occasion to reexamine gender equality policy surrounding women and families in line with the launch of the ninth elected-term administration and to discuss innovative policy approaches for integrating AI technology into support systems for at-risk youth. "We will continue to lead actively in policy research and development that residents can truly feel, so that all Daegu citizens can live happier lives," she added.
