Cheongsong-gun in North Gyeongsang Province will host the 2026 Cheongsong Golden Apple Cup National Federation Badminton Championship for middle and high school students at the Cheongsong National Sports Center for 12 days through Sept. 7, the county announced Friday.
The Korea Middle and High School Badminton Federation is organizing the event, with the North Gyeongsang Badminton Association and the Cheongsong-gun Badminton Association serving as co-hosts. Cheongsong-gun, the Cheongsong-gun Council, the Cheongsong-gun Sports Council and the Korea Badminton Association are sponsoring the competition.
The tournament will proceed in two stages — a middle school division followed by a high school division — and is expected to draw about 1,200 participants in total, including roughly 800 athletes from 131 teams nationwide and about 400 coaches and officials.
The county said it expects the influx of athletes, parents and other visitors from across the country to boost local businesses, particularly in the accommodation and food service sectors, during the event.
"We will do our utmost to provide administrative support so that the athletes, parents and officials who have traveled to Cheongsong from all over the country can compete in a safe and comfortable environment," Cheongsong-gun County Chief Yun Gyeong-hui said.
