The DU Infertility Response Center, affiliated with Daegu University's Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, signed a memorandum of understanding with Jeju National University Hospital on Thursday to build a community-based infertility response system. The signing ceremony took place at the international conference room of Jeju National University Hospital.
The agreement aims to link the two institutions' specialized infertility expertise and establish a close cooperation framework for addressing South Korea's low birth rate and infertility challenges.
The two institutions plan to develop a collaborative model for tackling the low birth rate in line with government policy through joint research, psychological counseling program development and professional workforce training.
Under the agreement, the two sides will cooperate across multiple areas — starting with a joint system for running awareness programs for people affected by infertility, and extending to joint research and psychological counseling programs for pregnant women with infertility, collaborative education program development, and an integrated support system for training staff at specialized infertility hospitals.
"In addition to existing awareness programs linked with local public health centers and infertility and maternal psychological counseling centers, we will work with Jeju National University Hospital to play a leading role in addressing infertility through differentiated joint research and psychological counseling programs developed via inter-regional exchange," said Ku Deok-bon, director of Daegu University's DU Infertility Response Center and head of the infertility healthcare center under the RISE project team.
