The two agencies signed an MOU Thursday at the district office to strengthen video surveillance management and jointly operate an AI-powered rapid missing-person search system.
Dongjak-gu signed a memorandum of understanding with the Dongjak Police Station on Thursday to strengthen cooperation at the district's integrated CCTV control center.
Dongjak-gu District Mayor Ryu Sam-young and Dongjak Police Station Chief Kim Du-seong attended the signing ceremony along with officials from both agencies, pledging to enhance their joint framework for operating the integrated CCTV control center and responding to crimes and emergencies.
Located on the third floor of the district office, the Dongjak-gu Integrated CCTV Control Center monitors 4,328 cameras installed at 1,274 locations across the district around the clock, 365 days a year, in a joint operation with police. The center supports rapid situational assessment and inter-agency coordination when crimes, natural disasters, or other emergencies occur.
Dongjak-gu and the Dongjak Police Station first signed a cooperation agreement in March 2015, collaborating on the operation of the integrated CCTV control center and the use and provision of video footage.
As the surveillance environment has evolved with the introduction of new AI-based technologies, the two agencies decided to update the existing agreement to reflect changes in their work environment, including stronger protections for video data and expanded missing-person search capabilities.
The key provisions of the new MOU include formalizing a framework for the safe use and management of video data and establishing a basis for jointly operating an AI-powered rapid missing-person search system.
The rapid missing-person search system uses AI to analyze and search CCTV footage for the appearance and clothing of missing individuals. By operating the system jointly, the two agencies expect to significantly cut the time needed for initial searches when a person goes missing.
Dongjak-gu and the Dongjak Police Station said they will continue to strengthen the functions of the integrated CCTV control center through close cooperation and improve their capacity to respond to missing-person cases and other incidents to protect residents' safety.
"The integrated CCTV control center plays a vital role in keeping residents safe from crime and various emergencies," District Mayor Ryu said. "Through this agreement, we will work even more closely with the Dongjak Police Station and actively leverage the latest technologies, including AI, to build a faster and more comprehensive safety management system."
