Gwangju Mayor Park Kwan-yeol: 'Kiturami Group's sustained investment in nurturing talent is a great source of strength for students'
Gwangju city announced Wednesday that Kiturami Group awarded scholarships and certificates totaling 100 million won ($72,300) to 113 middle and high school students in the region this year to support the development of local talent.
The scholarships were established as part of the Kiturami Cultural Foundation's corporate social responsibility program. Recipients were selected from students recommended by their school principals on the basis of academic achievement and exemplary conduct. This year, the foundation expanded its scholarship program compared with last year to further support students' studies and personal growth.
The award ceremony drew about 200 attendees, including Gwangju Mayor Park Kwan-yeol, Gwangju City Council Speaker Park Sang-yeong, Kiturami Group Chairman Choi Jin-min, scholarship recipients and their families.
"We will continue to provide sustained support so that the students who will lead the future can pursue bigger dreams and focus on their studies," Chairman Choi said.
Mayor Park said Kiturami Group's ongoing investment in nurturing talent has been a great source of strength for students. "I hope that through this scholarship, Gwangju students will take another step toward their dreams and grow into leaders who drive the development of our community," he added.
Meanwhile, Kiturami Group carries out a range of social contribution activities through its cultural and welfare foundations, including scholarship support, academic research grants, educational institution development funds, social welfare facility support and residential environment improvement. Since the foundations were established 41 years ago, the group has provided scholarships to more than 70,000 students and has sustained approximately 65 billion won in social contribution activities.
