Mayor Kim Seong-je: 'Reading can forge new connections in the community'
Uiwang is recruiting participants for "Library On," a starter project aimed at launching youth reading clubs.
The project is designed to give young residents a natural opportunity to connect through reading and to support the formation of lasting reading groups from the relationships built during the program.
The program will be held four times — Sept. 19, Oct. 2, Oct. 17 and Nov. 7 — at the culture classroom of Uiwang Central Library. It is open to 20 residents between the ages of 20 and 49, including young adults and working professionals in the city.
Each session will feature a reading specialist and will include a range of reading and networking activities: hands-on practice creating reading templates, book discussion sessions and a planning workshop for forming a reading club.
Participants will go beyond simply reading books — they will share opinions, explore reading methods that suit them, and have the chance to plan their own reading club with others who share similar interests and tastes.
Applications open Monday through Uiwang's integrated reservation system on a first-come, first-served basis. Further details are available on the notice board of the Uiwang Central Library website.
"Reading can be a powerful bridge that connects people and forges new relationships in the community, beyond just personal growth," Mayor Kim Seong-je said. "I hope this project helps young residents build a healthy reading community where they read and communicate together at the library."
