Daewoo Engineering lands 4 finalists at 2026 IDEA Design Awards

Daewoo Engineering & Construction announced Wednesday that four of its works have been named finalists at the 2026 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) held in the United States.

The four selected works are the Lacherveau Prugio Summit Sunken Plaza, Summit Gallery Namcheon and Summit Gallery Seomyeon — three spatial design products embodying the values of the company's high-end residential brand Summit — along with "The Luminous Grove of Stone," a landscape garden work from the Prugio Artist Garden line.

The IDEA Design Awards, organized by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), is one of the world's top three design prizes alongside Germany's iF Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award. The competition evaluates entries annually on innovation, functionality, aesthetics and social responsibility, drawing submissions from a wide range of fields worldwide.

The Lacherveau Prugio Summit Sunken Plaza is particularly notable: it won a main prize at Germany's iF Design Award in March before earning a finalist spot at this year's IDEA awards. The work is a flagship example of the Summit brand's pursuit of "Modern Koreaness" — a contemporary interpretation of Korean aesthetic sensibility rendered in architectural space. It reinterprets "chakyeong," the traditional hanok concept of borrowing scenery from the surrounding landscape, to draw nature and views into the interior, expressing Korea's distinctive spatial philosophy through a modern architectural language.

Summit Gallery Namcheon and Summit Gallery Seomyeon are experiential spaces for the high-end brand. Their spatial layouts and content are designed to let visitors directly engage with Summit's refined brand philosophy and its emotional and cultural values.

"The Luminous Grove of Stone" brings the Prugio Artist Garden concept — first unveiled at the 2025 Seoul International Garden Expo — to life within the Jeongeup Prugio the First apartment complex. The space is distinguished by its use of layered stonework to create natural, three-dimensional boundaries throughout the landscape.

"This finalist selection is recognition, on a global stage, of Daewoo Engineering & Construction's spatial design capabilities — our effort to go beyond basic residential function and capture emotion, culture and Korean identity," a company official said. "It is especially meaningful that we were able to showcase Summit's differentiated spatial philosophy and Prugio's landscape design competitiveness to a global audience."

The official added that the company would "continue to set new standards in residential space and lead a global residential culture that enhances the quality of customers' lives, grounded in unrivaled technology and creative design innovation."

Meanwhile, the Summit Amenity Design won a main prize at the 2026 iF Design Award in March. Daewoo Engineering & Construction has now claimed iF Design Award wins for five consecutive years, from 2022 through 2026, cementing its design competitiveness in the global market.
