Yeongdeungpo-gu is launching a pilot work-experience program that will subsidize labor costs at social solidarity economy enterprises providing on-the-job experience to unemployed youth.
The program aims to strengthen young people's job skills and ease their entry into the labor market, while also helping social solidarity economy firms struggling to fill positions.
Eligible applicants include community enterprises, cooperatives, and nonprofit organizations or groups related to the social solidarity economy with fewer than 10 employees operating within the district.
Selected firms will receive 2.34 million won ($1,690) per month in labor costs based on a 40-hour workweek. The district will also cover the employer's share of four major insurance premiums — 11.47 percent — along with 200,000 won per youth hire per month in operating expenses and 150,000 won per month in mentor allowances to support the stable operation of participating organizations.
Applications are open through Sept. 4. Interested firms must submit an application form and required documents by email to the designated officer. Detailed information, including application forms, is available on the Seoul Metropolitan Government website's public notice board, and inquiries can be directed to Yeongdeungpo-gu's Employment and Economy Division.
The district plans to finalize firm selection before recruiting youth participants to be matched with those organizations. Youth hired by participating firms will receive pre-employment training, mentoring programs and one-on-one career planning support, with participants gaining five months of hands-on work experience at their assigned organizations from October through February next year.
"This work-experience program is an effective co-prosperity model that gives young people a chance to grow while easing the burden on businesses," Yeongdeungpo-gu District Mayor Cho Yu-jin said. "We will spare no effort in actively supporting local youth as they confidently step into society, and in helping businesses grow alongside them."
