Gumi in North Gyeongsang Province has submitted a first supplementary budget of 2.47 trillion won ($1.79 billion) to the city council, the city announced Wednesday.

The figure represents a 242 billion won increase, or 10.8 percent, from the original budget of 2.23 trillion won for this year.

The budget comprises 2.09 trillion won in general accounts and 382 billion won in special accounts.

Key spending priorities include support for small business owners, programs to help young people settle in the region, urban environment improvements and public transit upgrades, disaster recovery projects, and agricultural support.

Major projects include the construction of the Sandong Sports and Culture Town (4.1 billion won), nighttime lighting along Sanho Bridge (1.2 billion won), an intersection improvement at Songnim Crossroads (2.1 billion won), a streetscape improvement at National Industrial Complex No. 1 (1.4 billion won), and the opening of an urban planning road between Doryang and Jisan (1 billion won).

The supplementary budget will go through deliberation at the 299th regular session of the Gumi City Council before being finalized on Sept. 22.

"We have allocated balanced funding across areas including revitalizing the alley economy centered on small businesses, attracting young residents, fostering a startup ecosystem, expanding transportation infrastructure, and supporting stable agricultural management," Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho said.
