CJ OnStyle announced Tuesday it has signed an exclusive domestic license agreement with Vera Wang, the New York-based modern luxury brand, and will begin carrying the label's original fashion collection in South Korea starting with the fall/winter season.
Vera Wang was founded in New York in 1990 by fashion designer Vera Wang. It began with bridal wear before expanding into ready-to-wear, eyewear, jewelry, fragrance, tableware and home goods. In South Korea, the brand is best known as a high-end wedding dress label.
CJ OnStyle first partnered with Vera Wang's headquarters in 2015 — the first such sub-license agreement in Asia — and has since operated a domestic fashion line under the name "VW Vera Wang." Blending the brand's design heritage with local customer preferences, the line surpassed 400 billion won ($290 million) in cumulative order value within five years.
The fall/winter season concept is "Modern Allure," combining couture elegance with the bold energy of streetwear. The collection features contrasting fabrics — lace, ruffles, velvet and satin — and striking silhouettes across about 40 styles, including bombers, blouses, dresses, trousers, bustiers and jackets.
The fall/winter collection will make its debut on CJ OnStyle on Saturday, with the brand story and collection to be introduced through various content formats including mobile live broadcasts.
Meanwhile, CJ OnStyle has also exclusively introduced other global licensed brands in South Korea, including Barneys New York, Brooks Brothers and Rockport. In the first half of this year, the average order value for those brands was about 47 percent higher than the overall average for CJ OnStyle's fashion category.
"Vera Wang is a brand that has built an unrivaled identity in global fashion," a CJ OnStyle official said. "Through this exclusive domestic launch of the original collection, we will strengthen our premium fashion competitiveness."
