Seoul's Songpa-gu will launch an integrated waste-sorting map on Sept. 1, consolidating household waste and recycling information into a single online map, the district announced Tuesday.

The map covers eight categories of information: collection days for general waste, recyclables and food waste by neighborhood; locations of standard garbage bag vendors; unmanned recycling kiosks; drop-off bins for spent fluorescent lamps and batteries; dedicated used-battery collection points; secondary battery bins for portable chargers and similar devices; and collection boxes for expired medications.

The map also helps residents distinguish at a glance between free and paid disposal options for bulky waste items, along with the fees charged by item type. Items that can be reused are directed to an upcycling center for a second life.

Users can select a category to view all relevant collection points and vendors across the district, and can search for the nearest facility based on their current location. No app download is required — the map is accessible directly through a web browser or can be added to a smartphone's home screen to function like an app.

The map is available to anyone via smartphone or PC, and the web address and QR code can be found on the Songpa-gu district office website and in the "Songpa News" bulletin.

Meanwhile, Songpa-gu is also running a waste-vinyl exchange program, under which residents can swap clean, recyclable plastic film for standard garbage bags at their local community center — one 10-liter bag per kilogram of vinyl brought in.

"We will continue delivering resident-centered services so that more people can practice resource recycling easily and conveniently through the integrated waste-sorting map," District Mayor Seo said.
