Dongjak-gu announced Wednesday that it received an excellence award at the 2026 National Local Government Jobs Competition, organized by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
The competition comprehensively evaluates the 2025 employment policy performance of all 243 local governments nationwide and recognizes outstanding districts.
The awards are divided into two categories: the "public disclosure" category, which assesses each local government's declared employment targets and actual results, and the "outstanding project" category, which evaluates the creativity and effectiveness of regional employment policies. Dongjak-gu received the minister's excellence award in the public disclosure category.
The district earned high marks for pursuing a range of employment policies tailored to different generations and demographics — expanding career-matched jobs for senior residents, supporting youth employment and local settlement, building employment infrastructure through support for small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners, and establishing a virtuous cycle of job creation within the community.
This year, the district has expanded job-linked education programs — including a nationally certified childcare provider course, a pharmacy office staff training course, and a financial administrative staff training course — connecting vocational training directly to job placement so that completing a course leads to actual employment.
Alongside this, the district is running tailored programs in partnership with companies and related institutions — a delivery workforce training program with GS Retail, AI education designed for seniors, and convenience store employment support for seniors and youth aging out of the care system — to broaden job opportunities for seniors and other employment-vulnerable groups.
In addition, the district will hold the Dongjak-gu Job Fair on Oct. 16 to give residents access to hiring information from a wide range of companies in one place and expand on-site recruitment opportunities.
The fair will offer consultations with working professionals and on-site job interviews, along with programs to help job seekers prepare — including AI-assisted mock interviews, personal statement writing workshops, and resume photo services.
"Employment is a vital foundation for stable lives and community vitality, so we are focusing our policy efforts on creating tangible job opportunities that residents can feel," District Mayor Ryu Sam-young said. "We will continue to expand job programs that reflect real-world demand and strengthen ties with a diverse range of companies and institutions to broaden employment opportunities for our residents."
