People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo on Tuesday introduced a bill that would allow young people to deduct up to 300,000 won ($217) per year from their taxes for fees paid to use generative AI services.
Under current law, companies receive tax benefits when they develop AI technology or invest in related facilities. However, no separate support exists for young people who spend money on generative AI services to study, prepare for employment or entrepreneurship, or build job skills.
The proposed amendment would allow young people to deduct up to 300,000 won annually from their taxes for generative AI service fees paid under their own name, with the benefit set to run through Dec. 31, 2029.
"Everyone in the country should now be able to learn and use AI," Ahn said. "Young people's access to AI must not be limited by their financial circumstances." He added that the bill was intended to help young people actively embrace AI as they prepare for the future.
