Mayor Park: Road completes east-west link 'long missing' from city's network
Dongducheon held an opening ceremony Monday for a new road connecting Jihang-dong to the city's urban bypass, formally announcing the route's completion to residents.
Mayor Park Hyung-deok attended alongside local dignitaries and residents, marking the occasion with a project progress report, commemorative remarks, congratulatory speeches and a ribbon-cutting.
The newly opened road runs approximately 0.5 kilometers, spans 20 meters in width and carries four lanes of traffic. It links the area near the Eco Human Ville 2 apartment complex in Jihang-dong to the urban bypass road in Songnae-dong, closing a longstanding gap in the city's road network to ease traffic inconvenience for residents.
The opening gives residents of the Jihang-dong new town direct access to the urban bypass, which connects to Provincial Road 364 and strengthens road links between Dongducheon and Pocheon. The city also expects the route to ease congestion along National Highway 3 and through the city center by diverting traffic onto the bypass.
"This road is not simply a new connection — it is a vital link that completes the east-west road network that has long been missing in Dongducheon," Park said at the ceremony. "I hope this newly opened route will improve residents' daily mobility, invigorate exchanges between communities and bring fresh energy to the local economy."
Park added that the city would continue expanding transportation infrastructure that residents can feel in their daily lives, with the goal of building a more convenient and livable city.
Dongducheon plans to use the road not only to improve mobility for new-town residents but also to strengthen regional connectivity and support the city's long-term development as a key piece of transportation infrastructure.
