The Gangwon Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education, Woori Financial Group Future Foundation and World Vision signed a memorandum of understanding Monday to advance a student breakfast support project called "Woori Ai Deundeun Achim," or "A Hearty Morning for Our Children."
The agreement aims to provide morning meals to students at risk of skipping breakfast or in need of care, supporting their healthy development and educational welfare.
The project, piloted in Gangwon Province this year, is a new breakfast support initiative run by World Vision with funding from Woori Financial Group Future Foundation.
A total of 175 students across 11 schools in Gangwon Province are eligible. Breakfast will be provided five days a week for 70 days to students at each school who need morning meals or care.
"Breakfast is a vital foundation that allows students to grow healthily and start their school day with energy," Gangwon education superintendent Gang Sam-yeong said. "I hope this agreement helps reduce breakfast skipping and gaps in care, so that all students can engage in learning in a more supportive environment."
The program will also focus on creating a stable environment for providing breakfast within schools, while linking morning care and student monitoring to the breakfast support process to reduce gaps in supervision.
The initiative carries particular significance for Jeungsan Elementary School in Jeongseon-gun, a former coal-mining area, where all 19 enrolled students will benefit — helping children at small rural schools maintain a healthy school life.
Under the agreement, the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education, Woori Financial Group Future Foundation and World Vision will cooperate to ensure the stable operation of the breakfast program and build a collaborative framework based on each organization's role to keep the initiative running smoothly at schools.
