Starting next month, KTX services at Ulsan Station and Taehwagang Station will increase and fares at Ulsan Station will be reduced, following the merger of KTX and SRT operations.

At Ulsan Station, five to six additional Seoul-bound trains will be added each day, shortening intervals during peak periods and easing the sold-out conditions that have frustrated passengers.

Fares on the Seoul-bound KTX will also fall: standard-class tickets will drop from 53,500 won ($39) to 48,000 won — a reduction of about 10 percent — while first-class tickets will decrease from 74,900 won to 69,600 won, a cut of roughly 7 percent.

The KTX-Eum service on the Taehwagang Station–Cheongnyangni route will also gain one additional train in each direction, lifting daily frequencies from 16 to 18 trips on weekdays and from 18 to 20 on weekends.

The expanded service is expected to ease seat shortages and make it more convenient for residents of central Ulsan districts, including Nam-gu and Jung-gu, to travel from Taehwagang Station to the Greater Seoul area.

"We expect this overhaul of high-speed rail services and the fare reductions to lighten the transportation cost burden on residents and help close the psychological and travel-time gap between Greater Seoul and central Ulsan," a city official said.
