Mayor Baek Young-hyeon: 'A space where residents share experience and wisdom to build community vitality'

Pocheon held an opening ceremony Friday for its 2026 Seyeong Richel Lifelong Learning Village program at the Pocheon River Forest Seyeong Richel small library, marking the formal launch of the initiative.

Seyeong Richel, newly designated as a lifelong learning village this year, is an apartment complex of 454 households and 1,125 residents. The program aims to build a lifelong learning community where residents can learn together and connect with neighbors close to home.

Mayor Baek Young-hyeon, along with residents and program officials, attended the ceremony to celebrate the launch. The event featured introductions to this year's learning programs, welcome and commemorative remarks, and a group photo.

The nine programs are designed for residents of all ages — from children and teenagers to adults and seniors — to explore areas of interest and connect naturally with neighbors within the complex. Offerings include AI-assisted business card design, exercise equipment instruction, eco-friendly soap making, glass crafts, acrylic painting, horticulture and a junior golf class.

That afternoon, a midsummer festival was held at the fountain park inside the complex, organized together with the Seyeong Richel daycare center.

The festival featured summer activities such as bubble play and water gun games, along with a magic show, CPR and fire safety education, and watermelon punch making. The daycare center set up an outdoor inflatable pool, illustrating the spirit of lifelong learning through community building.

"A lifelong learning village is more than a place to take classes — it is a space where residents come together, share their experiences and wisdom, and build vitality in the community," Mayor Baek said. "I hope Seyeong Richel apartment residents will make it a place where people across generations learn together, mingle, and share their lives and experiences with one another."
