LG Energy Solution expands community outreach programs, pledges to 'grow alongside neighbors'

LG Energy Solution is stepping up community-tailored corporate social responsibility activities — including employee volunteer work, skills-based donations and goods drives for marginalized groups — as it seeks to build and sustain a corporate culture of growing alongside its neighbors.

Employees at the company's Ochang Energy Plant hosted a "Healthy Summer" event on Aug. 8, treating about 100 elderly residents and neighbors from surrounding villages to samgyetang, a traditional Korean ginseng chicken soup, to mark the hottest days of the lunar calendar. The event was designed not merely as a meal but as a gathering to help local residents recover their strength during the summer heat and to foster a sense of community through open conversation between employees and neighbors.

Earlier in May, the company held a special event for Children's Month in which employees transformed into "Ensol Santas" for underprivileged children in North Chungcheong Province. Organized to give vulnerable children a joyful Children's Day, the event selected 80 children from low-income families in the region through the North Chungcheong Provincial Office of Education and delivered warm gifts along with words of encouragement.

Children were invited to write wish letters describing gifts they wanted, and employees personally purchased, wrapped and delivered each present. Reading each letter and selecting gifts one by one was intended to convey to every child that they are a cherished and meaningful individual — going beyond a simple act of giving.

LG Energy Solution plans to hold the "Ensol Santa" event regularly, timed to Children's Day each May and the Christmas season each December, rather than as a one-off initiative.

LG Energy Solution's Daejeon Technology Research Center also conducted a used-toy donation and repair drive in April to support the emotional development of underprivileged children. The center ran a donation booth to collect toys from employees, who then gathered to clean and repair them before distributing the refurbished toys to children from low-income families in the area to mark Children's Day.

"Given that the research center employs many science and engineering professionals, the process of repairing and assembling toy mechanisms generated strong enthusiasm among staff," a company official said. "It was a meaningful activity not only because we could give children a wonderful gift, but also because recycling the toys contributed to resource circulation."

LG Energy Solution has been running its in-house volunteer corps, known as "Hamsoli" — a portmanteau of the Korean words for "together" and "Ensol" — for five years. This year, the company again recruited representative volunteer teams at each of its worksites, running activities one to two times a month for local communities. Monthly programs have included serving free meals to senior citizens, cleaning grave sites at Seoul National Cemetery, painting murals, and hosting one-day experience classes for people with disabilities — giving employees diverse opportunities to participate in giving back.

The company also operates a company-wide donation kiosk called "Ensol Touch," a giving platform that introduces stories of people in need and allows employees to donate in a simple and convenient way.

Beyond company-organized programs, LG Energy Solution operates a paid-leave volunteer system that allows employees to take paid time off for volunteer activities they pursue on their own initiative. The policy creates an environment in which employees can independently organize volunteer activities with family members, colleagues or their departments, raising awareness of and participation in social contribution efforts.

"LG Energy Solution is working to understand the needs and impact of local communities and carry out wide-ranging activities in order to grow together with them," a company official said. "We will continue to provide diverse opportunities for employees to practice volunteering and giving in their everyday lives, share a positive influence with society, and build a warm culture in which people feel pride in their social contribution activities and can spread that love to their neighbors."
