With the traditional solar term of Cheoseo — marking the end of the hottest days — now past, the summer heat has eased and autumn is drawing near.
Seoul's autonomous districts are moving quickly to launch their fall festival lineups, with a diverse range of events highlighting local character — from classical ballet and craft beer to traditional folk games, K-pop, fashion and food.
As neighborhoods transform into festive gathering grounds, residents are expected to soak up the full flavor of the season.
Nowon-gu is kicking off the season with a ballet festival spanning classical and contemporary works.
Nowon-gu, led by District Mayor Seo Jun-o, raised the curtain on the 2026 NBF:B Nowon Ballet Festival: Boundary at the Nowon Culture and Arts Center on Friday. The festival runs through Sunday, over 10 days.
This year's theme is "Boundary." The program features not only top-tier domestic and international dancers but also amateur residents taking the stage to showcase ballet's diverse appeal.
Special performances will be given by An Jae-yong, a principal dancer with the Ballet de Monte-Carlo, and Park Yun-jae, a member of the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company and grand prix winner at the 2025 Prix de Lausanne. The program also includes "Giselle," a classical production by Seoul City Ballet; "Essai," an experimental contemporary work by Kim Yong-geol Dance Theater; and "A Midsummer Night's Nutcracker," a creative ballet by Dance Theater Shahar.
On the festival's final day, Sunday, an amateur ballet competition featuring eight teams that cleared preliminary rounds will be held at 2 p.m. in the main hall. A celebratory performance by a youth dance troupe and the closing ceremony will follow.
Dongdaemun-gu is bringing its beer festival back to a waterfront park in the Jangan-dong area.
Dongdaemun-gu, led by District Mayor Choi Dong-min, will hold the 2026 Dongdaemun-gu Beer Festival at Jangan 1 Waterfront Park on Saturday and Sunday.
Now in its third year, the festival's central slogan is "The Value of Together." Organizers aim to present an event where diverse generations and cultures mix, built around the values of inclusivity, loose solidarity and the district's multifaceted character.
The festival grounds have been expanded, and the number of participating craft beer breweries and food trucks has roughly doubled compared with last year. A QR-code food truck ordering system will also be introduced for the first time. Large-format beer sales and a range of hands-on programs are planned to enhance the experience for families, friend groups and couples alike.
Maxim T.O.P will provide two varieties of barrel-aged coffee capturing the deep flavor of whiskey oak casks, while Condition will supply its hangover-relief product, Condition Stick, in single-serve squeeze packets.
Songpa-gu is reviving a marketplace tradition two centuries old with its Baekjung Nori folk festival.
Songpa-gu, led by District Mayor Seo Gang-seok, will hold the 34th Songpa Baekjung Nori at Seoul Nori Madang on Sunday at 3 p.m., organized by the Songpa Folk Preservation Society.
The performance opens with a street procession and a blessings ritual. It continues with ssireum wrestling, Gyeonggi folk songs, Songpa Sandae Nori — a mask dance combining humor and satire — tightrope walking and a farmers' music performance, running approximately 120 minutes in total.
Gangnam-gu is planning a large-scale parade stretching 2 kilometers along Apgujeong-ro and Dosan-daero.
Gangnam-gu, led by District Mayor Kim Hyeon-gi, will hold the 2026 Gangnam Festival across various parts of Gangnam, centered on Apgujeong-ro and Dosan-daero, from Oct. 3 to 5.
Now in its 15th edition, the Gangnam Festival is shifting its main stage away from the traditional Yeongdong-daero corridor to the Apgujeong and Dosan-daero area. The event will showcase Gangnam's diverse appeal through K-pop and family concerts, fashion, beauty and food.
The most prominent new addition is the Grand Parade, making its debut this year. Tied to a community harmony festival, it will take the form of a large street procession with direct participation from local residents.
The parade route runs approximately 2 kilometers along Apgujeong-ro — including the Cheongdam luxury shopping strip — and Dosan-daero. The street festival, bringing together residents and tourists, is designed to highlight Gangnam's dynamic urban energy and cultural appeal.
Along Dosan-daero, the Grand Parade will be joined by a family concert, a K-pop concert and a K-culture festa encompassing fashion, beauty and food.
Elsewhere in the district, a KBS traditional music concert will be held at Maru Park, an international peace marathon along Bongeunsa-ro, and a temple music concert at Bongeunsa, rounding out a full calendar of cultural events across Gangnam throughout the festival period.
