Dongjak-gu, led by District Mayor Ryu Sam-young, is moving ahead with plans to build the "Dongjak No. 2 Math & Science Playground," aimed at sharpening children's convergent thinking and inquiry skills to prepare them for the future.
The new facility follows the "Dongjak No. 1 Math Playground," which opened last December, and is designed to offer an upgraded, multifaceted learning space that adds a science dimension to the original concept.
The first facility has drawn strong public interest, running programs such as math clinics and family math experience sessions, and recording more than 5,900 visitors as of late July.
Building on that response, the district plans to provide a larger, more comfortable space at the second facility, offering enriched convergence programs that incorporate scientific elements.
Construction on the Dongjak No. 2 Math & Science Playground began in July, with an opening targeted for September. The facility will be located at 195 Sangdo-ro, near Jangseungbaegi Station, in the community facility of Hillstate Building 103, Noryangjin-dong.
Spanning an exclusive use area of 619 square meters across the first and second above-ground floors, the first floor will house math and science classrooms alongside college-entrance counseling rooms, offering one-stop support for personalized academic and career guidance. The second floor will operate as a hands-on play space where children can use a variety of educational tools and experiment kits.
The facility is open to children aged 5 and older through high school students, and parents and local residents are also welcome.

Beyond this project, the district plans to accelerate its broader vision of building Dongjak into an education-friendly city by expanding cultural and educational infrastructure for all generations — including the planned establishment of a youth comprehensive education center and a new branch library in Sadang 3-dong.
