Broadcaster Jeon Hyun-moo, 48, laid out his conservative investment philosophy Sunday.
On the latest episode of KBS 2TV variety show "Boss in the Mirror," former baseball player Yang Jun-hyeok, 57, visited former volleyball player Kim Yo-han, 41, who has become a building owner.
Kim recalled topping the salary charts in 2012 — his third year as a professional — with an annual salary of 305 million won ($219,000). "I saved up every won I earned during my playing days," he said. "The only secret to being able to buy a building was saving."
Yang pushed back, telling Kim that saving too much was not the right approach.
Jeon sided with Kim, saying, "I'm the Kim Yo-han type. I don't invest in real estate." His close friends Kim Sook and Eom Ji-in chimed in, noting that he never does anything with his money.
Jeon elaborated on his investment philosophy. "In the end, my cash is melting away," he said. "I don't really like the phrase 'high risk, high return.' It's low risk, low return for me."
Kim Sook lamented that Jeon needed to act. "He's so cautious that he won't get married and won't buy real estate," she said. Jeon acknowledged as much, saying, "I do nothing — just broadcasting."
Jeon purchased a 156-square-meter unit at the Ipark Samsung apartment complex in Gangnam, Seoul in 2020 for around 4.5 billion won. The same unit is now estimated to be worth more than 7 billion won.
On a past episode of Channel A's variety show "Heard It Through the Grapevine," Jeon's annual income — combining program fees, advertising deals and event appearances — was estimated at between 3 billion and 4 billion won.
