Woo Seo-yun, 23, the daughter of broadcaster Woo Ji-won — once celebrated as one of South Korea's most handsome basketball players — was crowned Miss Korea Jin on Saturday.
Woo claimed the top title at the 70th Miss Korea pageant, organized by Global E&B, beating out 25 other finalists in the main competition held Saturday.
A regional titleholder from the Seoul-Gyeonggi-Incheon zone, Woo is widely known as the daughter of Woo Ji-won, a former professional basketball player turned broadcaster. She has also become a familiar face to the public through appearances on the tvN Story variety program Nae Saekki-ui Yeonae (My Kid's Romance).
She is currently studying fine arts at Tufts University in the United States, with aspirations to become a global art curator.
When her name was called, Woo could not hide her surprise and joy. "My fellow 70th-class contestants worked so hard, and I am so happy," she said. "I think this stage was made possible by the hard work and effort of so many people."
As Miss Korea Jin, Woo is set to take part in activities promoting the beauty and culture of South Korea.
The Miss Korea Sun title went to Oh Su-min, 25, a regional titleholder from the Jeolla-Gwangju-Jeju zone who studies at Waseda University's School of International Liberal Studies. The Mi title went to Lee Min-sol, 21, from the Busan-Ulsan zone, an economics student at Yonsei University's Underwood International College. Noh Hyang, 20, a Seoul-Gyeonggi-Incheon Jin titleholder studying Korean traditional music at Seoul National University, received the Ye award, while Lee So-min, 27, a Seoul-Gyeonggi-Incheon Mi titleholder studying piano at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media in Germany, took the Jae title.
