Sweltering heat will persist across South Korea on Sunday, with daytime highs reaching up to 35 degrees Celsius. Rain will continue in the Greater Seoul area and Gangwon Province through the early morning, and showers with strong gusts and lightning are forecast for parts of the country in the afternoon.
The Korea Meteorological Administration forecast partly cloudy skies nationwide on Sunday, with morning lows ranging from 22 to 26 degrees Celsius and afternoon highs between 31 and 35 degrees.
Rain will continue through the early morning in Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi Province and parts of Gangwon Province. Expected rainfall totals are 5 to 60 millimeters for Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi Province and inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province, and 5 to 40 millimeters along the Gangwon coast facing the East Sea.
Showers are forecast in the afternoon for western North Jeolla Province and mid-mountain and highland areas of Jeju. Southern and northeastern Gyeonggi Province and parts of South Chungcheong Province can also expect showers from the afternoon into the evening.
Forecast rainfall totals are 5 to 40 millimeters for southern and northeastern Gyeonggi Province, South Chungcheong Province and western North Jeolla Province, and 5 to 30 millimeters for mid-mountain and highland areas of Jeju.
Areas receiving showers may experience gusty winds and lightning.
Wave heights are forecast at 0.5 to 1.0 meters in coastal waters of the East Sea and 0.5 to 1.5 meters in the Yellow Sea and South Sea. In offshore waters, waves are expected to reach 0.5 to 1.0 meters in the East Sea, 1.0 to 3.0 meters in the Yellow Sea and 0.5 to 2.5 meters in the South Sea.
