Broadcaster Do Gyeong-wan has revealed that he wears a prosthetic nail on his index finger following surgery for acute osteomyelitis.
A video titled "Finally Revealing It" was posted Saturday on his YouTube channel "Dojang TV."
"I developed acute osteomyelitis in my hand and had surgery, and I took a two-to-three-year break from activities," Do said. "My index finger has a fake nail. I had the nail removed and the bone inside operated on, so I still wear a prosthetic nail to this day."
Do said he stopped wearing accessories almost entirely after the surgery, except for his wedding ring. "I thought about how I could draw attention away from my ugly hand and how I could stress less about it," he said. "Then I happened to see a photo of a foreign model wearing a wristwatch."
That chance encounter led to a watch-collecting hobby. Do showed off the timepieces he keeps in a watch winder, adding, "Not all of them are expensive. Many cost 20,000 won ($14) or 30,000 won."
He also revealed a watch he received as a birthday gift from his wife, singer Jang Yun-jeong. "It gives me the feeling of bringing out a bit of the teto-man side in an egen-man," he said, before quickly adding with a laugh: "Some of you might say I'm freeloading off Jang Yun-jeong again — but no. I'm actually the better gift-giver."
