Lotte Mart and Lotte Super announced Friday they will begin selling this year's first-harvest Hongro apples, available in bags of four to eight.

Apple varieties hit shelves in sequence starting with Hongro in August, followed by Gamhong and Fuji. Hongro, a domestically developed variety, is the earliest of the red apple cultivars to be harvested and is available from August through late September.

Lotte Mart and Lotte Super are pricing the Hongro apples at 14,990 won ($11) at Lotte Mart and 15,990 won at Lotte Super. Additional promotions are planned for the September "Tongkeun Festival."

"We worked closely with growers to be the first to bring this year's fresh Hongro apples to our customers," said Chae Hui-cheol, a merchandise planner on the fruit team at Lotte Mart and Lotte Super. "We will continue to offer fresh, high-quality apples at reasonable prices."
