Jungnang-gu will conduct electrical safety inspections at apartment complexes to prevent blackouts, as a prolonged heat wave drives a sharp rise in power consumption and heightens concerns about outages, the district office said.
The inspections proceed under an MOU with the Korea Electrical Safety Corp.'s Seoul North Branch. The district will randomly select apartment buildings that received occupancy approval more than 20 years ago, as well as those that have recently experienced power outages or whose aging electrical systems pose safety risks.
Inspectors will check the connection status of incoming wiring at each building entrance, look for insulation damage and deterioration, and examine the main lines and wiring inside the metering panels serving units that share a common entrance.
Minor issues found during inspections will be corrected on the spot, while items that pose safety risks will be referred for prompt repair and improvement. The district also plans to provide electrical safety education alongside the inspections.
"During heat waves, cooling appliances place a much heavier load on electrical systems than usual," said Jungnang-gu District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi. "We will do our utmost to prevent blackouts and other safety incidents through thorough advance inspections, so that residents can feel safe in their daily lives."
