The Greater Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon Province will see heavy cloud cover Thursday, while most other parts of the country will be largely overcast, the Korea Meteorological Administration said Wednesday.

Rain is expected on Jeju Island from early morning through the afternoon, while scattered showers are forecast from morning through evening across southern Gyeonggi Province, the Chungcheong region and southern parts of the peninsula.

Expected rainfall totals are 5 to 40 millimeters for Incheon and southern Gyeonggi Province, 5 to 50 mm for Daejeon, Sejong and South Chungcheong Province, and 5 to 40 mm for North Chungcheong Province. Showers of 5 to 60 mm are forecast for North Jeolla Province, Gwangju and South Jeolla Province, Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province, and Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province.

Scattered raindrops of less than 0.1 mm are possible from early morning through the morning hours in the Greater Seoul area, the southern inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province, the Chungcheong region, North Jeolla Province and the North Gyeongsang region.

Areas hit by showers should exercise caution, as the rain may be accompanied by strong gusts, thunder and lightning.

Morning lows are expected to range from 21 to 26 degrees Celsius, with afternoon highs of 28 to 34 degrees.

Waves in the coastal waters of the East Sea and South Sea are forecast at 0.5 to 1.0 meters, and 0.5 meters in the West Sea. Swells in the open waters are expected to reach 0.5 to 1.5 meters in the East and South seas and 0.5 to 2.0 meters in the West Sea.
