The Democratic Party of Korea on Wednesday appointed lawmaker Moon Jin-seog (two-term, Cheonan-gap, South Chungcheong Province) as senior administrative vice chairman and lawmaker Ahn Tae-jun (first-term, Gwangju-eul, Gyeonggi Province) as organizational vice chairman.

Chief spokesperson Park Seong-jun announced the appointments to reporters in Pyeongsan Village, Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province, following party leader Kim Min-seok's courtesy call on former President Moon Jae-in. Park also said the party had established a Democratic Research Institute Innovation TF and named lawmaker Kang Deuk-gu (two-term, Manan-gu, Anyang, Gyeonggi Province) as its head.

Park said Kim had directed the restructuring based on his experience leading the Democratic Research Institute and chairing the policy committee. "He said the institute needs to be reorganized with a focus on strategy and operations, and that its policy functions should be integrated into the policy committee," Park said, explaining the rationale for creating the TF.

Earlier Wednesday, Kim met with Busan Mayor Jeon Jae-soo before traveling to Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province, to pay his respects at the tomb of former President Roh Moo-hyun and call on Roh's widow, Kwon Yang-suk. After visiting former President Moon in Bongsan Village, Yangsan, Kim returned to Seoul to attend a dinner at Cheong Wa Dae. Jung Chung-rae and Song Yeong-gil, who competed against Kim at the Aug. 17 party leadership convention, were also invited.
