Local farm produce, food sold direct to consumers

Yeoncheon-gun plans to hold the "Yeoncheon Station Saturday Market" every Saturday at Yeoncheon Station Plaza from Aug. 22 through Nov. 28, aiming to expand sales channels for local farm produce and small businesses while fostering a direct-trade culture that brings producers and consumers together.

The market is designed to boost the local economy and revitalize the commercial district, with the goal of establishing it as a signature Saturday market representing Yeoncheon. It will showcase quality local agricultural and specialty products alongside a variety of food offerings, operating as a direct-sales venue where producers and consumers can interact in person.

The market runs every Saturday from Aug. 22 through Nov. 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The venue is in front of the local food direct-sales store at Yeoncheon Station Plaza, 269 Yeoncheon-ro, Yeoncheon-eup.

The Yeoncheon Station Saturday Market Operating Committee, chaired by Kim Jeong-hwan, is organizing the event, with about 15 farm households taking part. Nine canopy tents will be set up at the venue, where visitors can buy local farm and specialty products directly from producers as well as a range of food items.

Yeoncheon-gun plans to use the market to support local farmers' income growth and expand their sales channels, developing it into a go-to destination for both residents and tourists. The county particularly hopes to draw foot traffic around Yeoncheon Station to energize the local commercial district and contribute to the broader revitalization of the local economy.

Park Gi-nam, head of the agricultural policy division, said he hopes the market will serve as a genuinely useful direct-sales platform for local farmers and small business owners. "We look forward to welcoming many residents and visitors to enjoy Yeoncheon's outstanding farm produce and diverse food offerings," he said.
