The redevelopment and reconstruction consultation center operated by Yeongdeungpo-gu — led by District Mayor Cho Yu-jin — has established itself as a dedicated resource for resolving residents' disputes and questions about urban renewal.
The center has drawn strong public interest, with combined consultation and lecture services surpassing 6,000 cases.
Yeongdeungpo-gu is home to Seoul's largest concentration of urban renewal activity, with 107 redevelopment and reconstruction projects under way simultaneously. The range of initiatives — including housing association projects, remodeling schemes, redevelopment under the city's fast-track planning program, urban public housing complexes and Moa Town projects — has made it difficult for many residents to understand and engage with the process.
In response, the district deployed professional consultants and opened two centers: Singil 1 Center on the first floor of the Singil 5-dong community service center, and Mullae 2 Center on the second floor of the Mokhwa Village vitality hub.
Across the 107 project sites, the centers have handled a total of 5,690 resident consultations — 4,803 by phone and 887 in person — and have run 34 urban renewal courses with 776 participants.
This month, the centers have organized a tailored special lecture on property value assessment. The session will be held Friday at 4 p.m. at the YDP Mirae Lifelong Learning Center, where a practicing licensed appraiser will explain in plain terms why properties in the same complex or of similar size can carry different assessed values, walking attendees through the calculation principles and the reasons behind price differences.
The lecture is free and open to any Yeongdeungpo-gu resident with an interest in urban renewal projects. Registrations and inquiries can be directed to either the Singil 1 Center or the Mullae 2 Center.
Starting in the second half of the year, the district will also launch a "redevelopment and reconstruction rapid-support task force" — a collective-intelligence body bringing together responsible civil servants and specialists from various fields. The district said the task force aims to resolve conflicts that arise in the early stages of redevelopment and reconstruction projects quickly, accelerating overall progress.
"The consultation center has served as a reliable guide through urban renewal, handling more than 6,000 resident consultations and lectures," District Mayor Cho said. "We will continue to actively support resident-centered renewal projects at every redevelopment and reconstruction site under the principle of doing it fast and doing it right."
