Sweltering heat will persist Wednesday, with afternoon highs reaching 33 degrees Celsius, as showers accompanied by strong gusts, thunder and lightning are forecast across the country.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, rain will fall from the early hours through the morning in the southern Chungcheong region, the Jeolla region and parts of western North Gyeongsang Province. Some areas in the greater Seoul area may also see light rainfall of less than 0.1 mm.
From the afternoon through the evening, showers are forecast to concentrate over southern Gyeonggi Province, the southern inland areas and mountains of Gangwon Province, the Chungcheong region and the southern regions of the country.
Areas hit by showers may also experience strong gusts and lightning, and residents are urged to secure outdoor facilities and take precautions against accidents.
Expected rainfall from the early hours through the morning ranges from 5 to 30 mm in Daejeon, the southern parts of South and North Chungcheong provinces, North Jeolla Province, Gwangju, South Jeolla Province and western North Gyeongsang Province.
Afternoon and evening showers are expected to bring 5 to 40 mm to southern Gyeonggi Province and the southern inland and mountain areas of Gangwon Province, and 5 to 50 mm to Daejeon, Sejong, South Chungcheong Province and North Chungcheong Province. Gwangju, South Jeolla Province and North Jeolla Province, as well as Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province and Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province, can expect 5 to 60 mm.
Temperatures will remain high. Morning lows are forecast at 20 to 26 C, with afternoon highs of 29 to 33 C.
Wave heights in coastal waters are expected to reach 0.5 to 1.5 meters in the East Sea, 0.5 meters in the West Sea and 0.5 to 1.0 meters in the South Sea. Offshore wave heights are forecast at 0.5 to 1.5 meters across all three seas.
