Mirae Asset Global Investments announced Friday that retail investors' net purchases of its TIGER 200 ETF have exceeded 1 trillion won ($707 million) since the beginning of the year.
According to Korea Exchange data as of Thursday, year-to-date retail net purchases of the TIGER 200 ETF reached 1.04 trillion won. Steady inflows from retail investors, combined with strong performance, have pushed the fund's net assets to 10.35 trillion won.
Performance has been strong. The TIGER 200 ETF posted a year-to-date return of 78.0%, ranking first among all KOSPI 200-tracking ETFs listed in South Korea.
Growing volatility in individual stocks and specific sectors has fueled demand for broad-market index ETFs that offer diversified exposure across the overall market. Analysts say index ETFs are drawing attention as long-term investment vehicles as more investors seek to reduce concentration in particular sectors while participating in the broader growth of the domestic stock market.
The TIGER 200 ETF tracks the KOSPI 200, South Korea's benchmark equity index. It invests broadly across major domestic industries — including semiconductors, automobiles, financials, industrials and telecommunications — and holds leading companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, reducing dependence on any single stock or sector while allowing investors to participate in the overall growth of the Korean market.
"The TIGER 200 ETF combines low fees, strong performance and high liquidity," said Jung Eui-hyeon, head of ETF management at Mirae Asset Global Investments. "It can serve as an effective investment vehicle for investors looking to build long-term, installment-based positions in the domestic stock market."
Several other Mirae Asset ETF products have also delivered strong results recently. As of Tuesday, the TIGER Kosdaq Active ETF posted an August return of 23.6%, the highest among actively managed Kosdaq ETFs listed in South Korea. The TIGER US Dividend Dow Jones ETF has also seen year-to-date retail net purchases surpass 1 trillion won. Mirae Asset also recently raised the monthly distribution of the TIGER Korea Dividend Dow Jones ETF from 58 won to 61 won per unit.
