Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Won-tae received 9.05 billion won ($6.36 million) in total compensation in the first half of this year, according to regulatory filings.

Cho collected 5.38 billion won from Korean Air and 3.67 billion won from Hanjin Kal during the January-June period.

His Korean Air pay rose 40.8 percent from the first half of last year, driven by additional performance bonuses tied to a long-term stock-linked incentive program.

His compensation from Hanjin Kal, however, fell 15.2 percent from a year earlier. The decline reflects the absence of a one-time special bonus paid last year upon completion of the merger between Korean Air and Asiana Airlines.

Combined, Cho's pay from the two companies climbed 11.0 percent, from 8.15 billion won in the first half of last year to 9.05 billion won this year.

Cho also receives compensation from Jin Air and Asiana Airlines, but those figures were not disclosed in the semiannual reports, which are required to list individual pay only when it reaches 500 million won or more.
