Jindo-gun chief visits Wonda village and Supum Port from 11 p.m. Thursday to inspect coastal areas at risk of flooding during the spring tide period
Officials urged to step up patrols during high-risk hours and maintain rapid on-site response systems
Jindo-gun chief Lee Jae-gak personally visited coastal areas at risk of flooding to conduct field inspections during the August spring tide period (Aug. 11–15), aiming to prevent inundation and safety accidents caused by rising sea levels.
The inspection was organized to survey low-lying coastal areas, ports and harbors vulnerable to flood damage during the spring tide period and to put countermeasures in place for a preemptive response to flooding and safety incidents.
Lee checked coastal roads and loading docks that become submerged when sea levels rise, and called on officials to strengthen patrols of low-lying coastal flood-risk zones during high-risk hours.
Lee also ordered officials to ensure a swift on-site response system so residents can evacuate immediately in an emergency. He encouraged Jindo-gun civil servants and members of the Jindo-gun Community Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps, who are jointly carrying out field response activities in flood-risk areas during the spring tide period.
Jindo-gun plans to continue a range of safety measures throughout the spring tide period — patrolling low-lying coastal and flood-risk areas, inspecting danger zones including ports, harbors and breakwaters, and guiding residents, anglers and tourists on safety during high-tide hours. The county will also enforce access controls at hazardous sites, check safety facilities, and run public awareness campaigns through emergency text alerts and village broadcasts.
"During spring tides, sea levels rise significantly higher than usual, meaning even a small lapse in attention can lead to flooding or casualties — thorough advance preparation is paramount," Lee said. "We will do our utmost to protect the lives and property of our residents by maintaining field-centered patrols and a rapid response system."
