Gunpo Mayor Han Dae-hee said Friday the city had prepared a range of programs "so that residents can keep books close in their daily lives and enjoy the pleasures of reading during September's Reading Month."
Daeya Library in Gunpo will run four reading-culture programs for residents in September, including special lectures, an exhibition and a book-sharing event.
Among them is an advanced reading-coaching lecture for third-grade elementary school students titled "Library News Lab: Read, Weave, Speak."
Organized as part of Gyeonggi Province's children's reading-coaching project, the lecture aims to improve literacy and build active reading habits through exercises such as paragraph reading and identifying main ideas. Registration opens Tuesday on a first-come, first-served basis.
Alongside this, the library will distribute "Fun Post-Reading Activity" notebooks for younger elementary school students and host a picture-book original-illustration exhibition titled "See You Again, Mr. Dalpyeong" for library visitors.
A book-sharing event will be held over two days, Sept. 12 and 13, in the integrated resource room at Daeya Library.
