Daewoo Engineering & Construction announced Friday that it has partnered with US-based global landscape architecture firm Supermass Studio to deliver a differentiated outdoor environment as part of its bid to win the Mokdong 8 apartment reconstruction project.

Supermass Studio is a global landscape design firm recognized for its original design capabilities in public spaces, urban open spaces, large-scale residential complexes and mixed-use development projects. Daewoo Engineering & Construction plans to apply the firm's world-class landscape design expertise to the Mokdong 8 complex, creating a comfortable and refined residential environment that future residents can enjoy in their daily lives.

Supermass Studio has carried out a range of landmark projects worldwide, including Helsinki South Harbour — a flagship coastal urban development in Finland — as well as the LaGuardia Airport Terminal B Concourse Park in New York and various university and mixed-use developments. The firm's design philosophy centers on organically connecting nature, the city, people and space, going beyond simple green planting to create environments that enhance urban identity and quality of life.

For the Mokdong 8 project, Supermass Studio and Daewoo Engineering & Construction plan to introduce the concept of a "Living Arboretum" — transforming the entire complex into one vast botanical garden.

Rather than simply planting more trees, the design will feature 12 themed tree collections organized along botanical taxonomy principles, combined with a seasonal landscape plan to deliver a truly differentiated outdoor space.

Each collection will be organically linked to pedestrian pathways, water features and community spaces, allowing residents to experience nature as if strolling through an arboretum in their everyday lives. The arboretum-style landscaping captures the identity of Mokdong as a "city of trees" and its character as an education hub, and is expected to become a new premium landscape landmark for the neighborhood — one whose ecological and scenic value will grow over time.

"Through collaboration with a world-class landscape design firm, we will present a special residential space that embodies the unique value of Mokdong 8," a Daewoo Engineering & Construction official said. "We will complete a new landmark for Mokdong through premium landscaping and refined scenery whose value will only increase with time."

Meanwhile, Daewoo Engineering & Construction has raised its overall order target for this year to 27 trillion won ($19.1 billion), a sharp increase from the previous target of 18 trillion won.
