Yeongdeungpo-gu District Mayor Cho Yu-jin attended a breakfast prayer service marking Liberation Day on Thursday morning at Hanyoung Church in Yeongdeungpo-dong, ahead of the 81st anniversary of Korea's liberation on Saturday.
Organized by the Yeongdeungpo Diocese Council (chairman Choi Tae-su), the event drew about 200 attendees, including Cho, the head of the district council, National Assembly lawmakers, Seoul city and district council members, and diocese council members.
Cho joined a Liberation Day worship service, offered a special prayer for the nation and the community's development, and took part in a commemorative ceremony and breakfast to reflect on the meaning of liberation.
"On the occasion of the 81st Liberation Day, I bow my head in deep gratitude alongside our residents to honor the sacrifice and dedication of the patriots and independence activists who gave their lives for this country," Cho said. "Yeongdeungpo will lead the way toward the high-culture nation and welfare state that our forebears dreamed of, and we will build a constitutional city — the finest Yeongdeungpo — where human dignity and values are upheld and a humane lifestyle is guaranteed."
