Seoul's Dongdaemun-gu held a "Love Your Country, Fly the Taegukgi" campaign Thursday morning at Cheongnyangni Station plaza, ahead of the 81st Liberation Day on Saturday. The district co-hosted the event with the Dongdaemun-gu Council of the Barun Saenghwal (Righteous Living) Movement, chaired by Yu Gang-sik.

The event drew a large turnout of local figures, including Dongdaemun-gu District Mayor Choi Dong-min, district lawmakers, some 100 members of the Barun Saenghwal Movement from district and neighborhood chapters, Kim Guk-cheol, stationmaster of Korail's Cheongnyangni Station, and Kim Seong-tae, head of the National Health Insurance Service's Dongdaemun branch.

Participants handed out fans printed with the Taegukgi to residents passing through Cheongnyangni Station, encouraging every household to fly the national flag.

"I am deeply grateful to the members who joined the campaign, and I hope this event serves as a meaningful opportunity to inspire patriotism throughout our community," Yu said. "We will continue to lead the way in community service and upholding civic order."

District Mayor Choi said he hoped the campaign would prompt all residents to reflect on the true meaning of Liberation Day and translate that spirit into flying the Taegukgi at home. "I sincerely thank the members of the Barun Saenghwal Movement, who put their love of country into practice through service across our community," he said.

The Dongdaemun-gu Council of the Barun Saenghwal Movement consistently carries out a range of community activities — including drug and substance abuse prevention campaigns, safety culture drives, volunteer programs for marginalized groups, welfare facility support and environmental cleanup — in its effort to build a healthy local community through the practice of righteous living.
