Shinhan Bank will launch a new one-year flexible savings account offering a maximum annual interest rate of 9 percent on Friday, targeting young customers and first-time savers looking to build assets.
The product, called "Shinhan Jeokgeum 9-dan," offers preferential interest rates to customers opening their first savings account with Shinhan Bank and to Shinhan Card holders. Any individual customer may sign up, with monthly deposits of up to 300,000 won ($212) allowed at the customer's discretion.
The base interest rate is 3 percent per year, with preferential rates of up to an additional 6 percentage points available. Customers who held no deposit, savings or housing subscription products at Shinhan Bank in the six months before enrollment qualify for an additional 5 percentage points, while those with at least three months of Shinhan Card — credit or debit — payment history receive an additional 2 percentage points. Customers who held no such Shinhan Bank products in the preceding six months and open an account with a 300,000 won deposit by Aug. 31 will receive the full 6-percentage-point preferential rate, bringing the total annual rate to 9 percent.
The account is limited to one per person and will be sold in a total of 200,000 units through Sept. 30. Customers can sign up at any Shinhan Bank branch nationwide or through the bank's Shinhan Super SOL app.
"We have prepared a high-interest product to help young people who are just starting their careers and need to build a financial foundation, as well as first-time savers, accumulate a lump sum through consistent saving," a Shinhan Bank official said. "We will continue to offer financial products and services with tangible benefits so that customers can develop healthy asset-building habits from the very first step of their financial lives."
Meanwhile, Shinhan Bank has also been running the sixth special sale of its "Shinhan SOL Mate" time deposit since Monday, with a cap of 500 billion won. The bank did not offer a single special time deposit sale in either 2024 or 2025, but has already launched six such products this year.
