Actress Hwang Jung-eum has shared a glimpse of life raising her two sons, including a moment when she turned to her ex-husband Lee Young-don for help.
A video titled "The day I made super-easy braised galbi and tonic water kkakdugi for a home-cooked meal" was posted Wednesday on Hwang's YouTube channel.
In the video, Hwang prepared braised galbi and kkakdugi, a type of radish kimchi, for her sons.
While cooking, she found herself thinking back to her newlywed days.
"I took a cooking class at a hagwon when we were newlyweds, but I think I only went twice before I stopped," she said. She then recalled a fight with her then-husband: he had told her, "What have you ever done for me?" — to which she replied, "So I've done nothing? Fine. I won't go," and quit the classes.
When her sons came home, the parenting began in earnest. After one of them asked for ramyun, Hwang firmly said no and tried to get him to eat the braised galbi she had made.
A natural exchange with her ex-husband followed when her older son, while using the computer, asked for help with a Microsoft account.
When her son asked, "Mom, do you have a Microsoft account?" Hwang said she did not. When he then asked her to create one for him, she said, "Mom can't do that kind of thing. Call Dad and ask him to do it."
The boy called his father directly and continued asking questions about the computer. During the call, Lee's voice could be heard faintly through the phone.
"Whenever computer stuff comes up, I tell them to ask their dad," Hwang said, adding that she turns to her ex-husband whenever situations involving the children call for it.
The computer the boy uses was also reportedly a gift from his father. When a producer asked whether his dad had bought it, Hwang confirmed it, saying, "Yes. Wangsik had wanted one for a long time, and he finally bought it for him this time."
Hwang married Lee Young-don, a former professional golfer turned businessman, in 2016, and the couple have two sons together. After going through one divorce crisis and reconciling, they separated again and have since finalized their divorce.
