Keimyung University in Daegu announced Wednesday that it received an S rating — the top grade — in the Ministry of Education's 2026 University Innovation Support Project performance evaluation for the second consecutive year.

The university was recognized for several achievements in this year's assessment, including expanding students' freedom to choose their majors through an open-major department, activating multi-major pathways by introducing micro-degree programs, diagnosing foundational academic skills and providing level-based personalized student management, reducing dropout rates through flexible academic operations and expanded major flexibility, and linking the project's outcomes with the university's mid- to long-term development plan and feedback systems.

Particularly noteworthy was the university's establishment of a systematic student support framework — covering foundational academic skill improvement, major-selection guidance and early dropout prevention — even as enrollment through the open-major department has grown rapidly each year. Evaluators cited this as a best-practice case.

As a result of the rating, Keimyung University will receive an additional 7.58 billion won ($5.36 million) in performance-based project funding.

Combined with the existing quantitative-performance project budget of 5.58 billion won, the university's total project funding for 2026 comes to 13.16 billion won.

"We will continue to drive education innovation — strengthening personalized education that reflects each student's individual characteristics and needs, as well as support systems for student growth — so that we can cultivate the creative, convergence-oriented talent that future society demands," said Shin Il-hee, president of Keimyung University.
