Seoul's Dongjak-gu announced Wednesday that it will run a series of "bookcation" programs at district libraries throughout August to coincide with the summer vacation and holiday season.
Kkamangdol Library will hold a hands-on financial literacy class for second- and third-grade elementary school students on Friday, running from 10 a.m. to noon. Titled "Financial Education for Nine-Year-Olds," the session is designed to introduce young students to basic money concepts through practical activities.
On Aug. 19 and Aug. 26, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., content creator Dami (author Lee Seung-gi) will lead a workshop called "My Studio in My Hands," covering how to use the Lightroom app, smartphone photography and video techniques, composition, and hands-on editing practice. Lightroom is a photo editing and management application developed by Adobe for both professional and general users.
Sindaebang Nuri Library will host a lecture by Son Min-gyu, author of "The Book That Chooses Books," on Aug. 21 at 7 p.m.
On Aug. 23, engineering doctorate and futurist Jeon Sang-hun will deliver a lecture titled "AI College Admissions and Future Strategy" for 50 teenagers and parents. The session will cover key admissions information including changes to university entrance exams brought about by the introduction of AI Digital Textbooks — AI-powered educational software that supports personalized learning tailored to each student's level and pace — as well as trends in college and career pathways.
Kim Young-sam Library will run a two-day figure drawing workshop, "More Fun Because We're Different," on Aug. 27 and 28. Painter Kim Hyo-chan will instruct 20 adult participants from 7 to 9 p.m. each evening; attendees must participate in both sessions.
On Aug. 29, a picture-book art activity session will bring together 15 families with young elementary-age children to build imagination and creative expression skills.
The district will also run age-tailored programs at other libraries: a "Storytime with a Native Speaker" session at Dongjak English Maru Library (98 Jangseungbaegi-ro 16-gil), a summer book-play event called "Let's Play Together, Summer Book Play" at Sadang Solbat Library (86 Solbat-ro), and a media literacy class titled "Media Is My Friend" at Daul Small Library. Registration periods vary by program; full schedules and sign-up details are available on the Dongjak integrated library website.
"Even without traveling far in the sweltering summer heat, we have prepared a wide range of programs so that residents can discover new interests and have unique experiences at their neighborhood library," District Mayor Ryu Sam-young said. "I hope many residents will spend a fulfilling summer of their own at the library through this bookcation."
