The Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity announced Wednesday that it has obtained ISO 30301 certification, the international standard for records management systems covering the full life cycle of records — from production and management to use and preservation.
ISO 30301 is an international standard established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for records management systems. It sets out requirements for organizations to align their management objectives with records management, establish policies and goals, and implement, monitor and improve those systems.
The certification recognizes that the foundation's records management framework meets international standard requirements spanning the production, acquisition, management, use and preservation of records, and that the foundation has the systems in place to treat records as a core management asset.
The certification audit particularly commended the foundation across five areas: management's active commitment to records management, systematic integration of project and records management procedures, clear definition of roles and responsibilities by department, employee education and awareness-raising, and the implementation and oversight of internal audits and improvement tasks.
The foundation said it intends to use the certification as an opportunity to treat records not merely as items to be preserved, but as core management assets that enhance transparency and accountability in operations and support knowledge accumulation and decision-making.
It also plans to systematically build up and utilize key records to ensure operational continuity and strengthen a records-based work environment capable of delivering trustworthy public administrative services.
"Obtaining ISO 30301 certification is the result of every member of our organization recognizing the importance of records and working together to establish a culture of systematic records management," said Jeong Woo-seong, president of the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity. "We will continue to develop our records management system so that it enhances the reliability and practical value of our records and supports transparent and accountable institutional operations."
