Actor Oh Cho-hee has drawn attention by revealing her conflicts with her lawyer husband over his 30-year Pokémon obsession, along with the hardships of raising twins as a couple living apart.
The couple appeared on episode 180 of MBC's "Oh Eun-young Report — Marriage Hell," which aired Monday, billed as a "hot-and-cold couple" — a passionate wife paired with an emotionally distant husband.
Oh introduced herself as "a third-year wife raising twins in Gwangju," while her younger husband, lawyer Nam Ju-seong, offered his own greeting.
"My husband has been obsessed with Pokémon for 30 years," Oh said. "If I had known he was this into it, I never would have married him."
She revealed that her husband competes in tournaments with professional equipment and even devoted their honeymoon itinerary to catching Pokémon. On Monday — their wedding anniversary, which also falls on Children's Day — he came home with a Pikachu edition product as a gift for himself rather than for her or the children, and that was when her pent-up anger finally boiled over.
Oh confronted her husband, saying, "You've gone too far. Get a grip."
But the husband had his own defense: since he neither drinks nor smokes, the hobby he has kept up for 30 years is in effect his only outlet for stress.
Unlike her husband, who lives in Seoul, Oh has been raising 80-day-old twins on her own in Gwangju, South Jeolla Province, with help from her mother — a weekend arrangement spanning 340 kilometers.
After childbirth, Oh developed mastitis so severe that her inflammation levels spiked to 10 times the normal range, leaving her near death. Even then, her husband's first concern was not her suffering but "what will happen to the babies if they can't have breast milk" — a response that left Oh deeply wounded.
On weekends, the husband would bury himself in work while the twins were nearby, at times leaving a child unattended or getting so caught up in work during a bottle feeding that the baby vomited — scenes that alarmed viewers.
The show's hosts and Dr. Oh Eun-young reacted with shock, saying "This is absolutely unacceptable," while panelist Jang Dong-min said the husband was "not just inexperienced — he's simply not trying."
Dr. Oh said the problem was not the hobby itself but the husband's misplaced priorities toward his family. Even his rare free moments went toward buying character merchandise rather than toward his family, leaving his wife feeling deeply alienated.
In response, Dr. Oh offered a solution: end the 340-kilometer weekend arrangement, move in together at the Seoul home and bring in childcare support.
Near the end of the episode, viewers learned that the couple had taken Dr. Oh's advice and promptly begun living together in Seoul, with a noticeably changed dynamic.
"We definitely fight less," Oh said, adding that her husband "is now actively showing affection to the children and making an effort to spend his weekend time with the family."
