Nowon-gu District Mayor Seo Jun-o on Tuesday briefed members of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's G3 Planning Committee, who visited the district office, on the district's vision and strategy for the S-DBC (Seoul Digital Bio City) project.
The visiting delegation included Lee Chang-mu, a professor serving as co-chair of the G3 Planning Committee and chief architect of Seoul, Nam Jin, chair of the committee's balanced development subcommittee, other subcommittee members, and the head of Seoul's Balanced Development Headquarters. The group toured the S-DBC site, widely regarded as a flagship project for the Changdong-Sanggye area in Seoul's northeastern corridor.
The delegation visited the Seoul Arena construction site in Changdong, Dobong-gu, and inspected the bridge that will connect Seoul Arena to the S-DBC site, before taking in a panoramic view of the S-DBC project site from the rooftop observation deck of the Nowon-gu district office.
Mayor Seo briefed the group from the rooftop deck overlooking the S-DBC site — the former Changdong vehicle depot — on the project's current status and the district's strategy for building a successful biotech cluster. He has identified the S-DBC development as the centerpiece of his vision for Nowon as a "future economic city," with the goal of transforming the district from a residential bedroom community into a self-sustaining economic hub anchored by a biotech industry base.
"With the relocation of the Changdong vehicle depot now complete and Seoul Arena set to open next year, it is time to accelerate the development of S-DBC," Seo said. "There is much that Seoul and Nowon-gu must accomplish together on the S-DBC project — from securing industrial complex designation and attracting businesses to establishing a global biotech center — and we will work actively in close cooperation."
