Uiryeong-gun in South Gyeongsang Province has begun distributing 500,000 won ($353) per person in livelihood support payments to all residents.

The county announced Monday that the payments would begin that day.

The county and the Uiryeong-gun Council passed an ordinance on the livelihood support payments on July 28, along with a supplementary budget of about 12 billion won to fund the program.

The payments are intended to ease the financial burden on residents struggling with high prices and an economic slowdown, and to stimulate local spending.

Eligible recipients are the approximately 24,600 people registered as residents of Uiryeong-gun as of June 30, including marriage migrants and permanent residents.

The total program cost is 12.5 billion won. Each recipient will receive 500,000 won in the form of paper Uiryeong Love gift vouchers, redeemable through the end of this year.

Applications are open through Sept. 11. Eligible residents can apply in person at the township or village office covering their registered address.

The county will also offer a home-visit application service for elderly residents and people with disabilities who have difficulty traveling.
