Guro-gu, led by District Mayor Jang In-hong, has invited a youth delegation from its sister city, Tongzhou District in Beijing, to take part in a five-day Korean-Chinese youth exchange program running from Monday through Friday.
The delegation consists of 15 people — 12 youths from Tongzhou District and three chaperones — who are staying in Guro-gu and touring key facilities and landmarks in the district while experiencing Korean culture and history.
On the first day of the visit, Monday, an official welcome ceremony was held at the district office's Creative Hall. The ceremony opened with a welcoming address by District Mayor Jang, followed by remarks from the delegation and a commemorative photo session. The group then visited Geulmaru Hanok Children's Library and Gocheok Sky Dome to close out the day's schedule.
For the remainder of the visit, the delegation will join middle and high school students at a youth cultural center for Korean-Chinese exchange activities, including cooking and recreational programs.
The group will also visit Seoul National University, Lotte World and Starfield Library, and experience Korean history and culture through taekwondo, a Nanta performance and a traditional crafts workshop before departing Friday.
Guro-gu and Tongzhou District have maintained a cooperative relationship since signing a sister-city agreement in 2002, with ongoing exchanges including mutual delegation visits and youth programs. Since 2024, youth exchanges have been held on a biennial basis; next year, Guro-gu youths are scheduled to visit Tongzhou District to continue the exchange.
"Guro-gu and Tongzhou District are cherished neighboring cities with a long history of exchange," District Mayor Jang said. "I hope this visit will be an opportunity for young people from both cities to understand each other and build lasting friendships, and we will work to ensure that youth exchange activities continue."
