Seongbuk-gu exemplary youth commendation ceremony

Seoul's Seongbuk-gu held a commendation ceremony Saturday to honor young residents who serve as role models in their communities.

The event, held at the art hall on the fourth floor of the Seongbuk-gu District Office, was organized to boost the pride of outstanding youth and encourage them to grow into healthy members of society. Of the 55 honorees, 45 attended the ceremony along with their guardians and officials, bringing total attendance to about 100.

Awards were presented across five categories: filial piety and etiquette, overcoming adversity, volunteerism and cooperation, creativity and science and arts, and global leadership.

Candidates were nominated by principals of elementary, middle and high schools, alternative schools, special schools and youth facility directors within Seongbuk-gu. A merit screening committee then conducted a rigorous review and vote to select the final recipients.

District Mayor Lee Seung-ro said he hoped the commendation would serve as positive motivation for local youth who have lived diligently and admirably. "Seongbuk-gu will continue to provide diverse activities and support so that young people can independently pursue their dreams and talents and grow in the right direction," he said.

The district said it plans to continue identifying and encouraging exemplary youth in the community and to develop youth-friendly policies on an ongoing basis.
