Gijang-gun officials visited the Busan Gijang Film Studio construction site in Giryong-ri, Jangan-eup, on Monday, meeting with Korean Film Council Chairman Han Sang-jun and other officials to review the project's progress and discuss ways to boost operations after completion and foster cooperation with the local community, the county announced Tuesday.

Gijang-gun County Chief Woo Seong-bin said Monday he intends to develop the Busan Gijang Film Studio into a core future industry for the county. "I hope it will become a defining landmark that represents Gijang-gun," he said.

Woo also said that once the studio is fully operational, many film production workers will be staying in Gijang for extended periods, making it necessary to examine supporting infrastructure — accommodation, food and beverage, and transportation — in advance. "We will look at examples of major overseas film locations and gather sufficient input from local residents to review various ways to develop lodging and convenience infrastructure," he said.

Gijang-gun plans to actively promote the outdoor filming studio, once built, as a major tourism resource, and to continue working with the Korean Film Council to link the film and video industry with tourism and the local economy around the studio.

The Korean Film Council said it would "actively explore a wide range of local cooperation measures with Gijang-gun" and plans to promote the Busan Gijang Film Studio to domestic and international film industry figures and the general public during the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), scheduled for October.

Ground was broken on the Busan Gijang Film Studio in 2024, and completion is expected by the end of September. The facility will include three indoor studio buildings — measuring 3,300 square meters, 2,145 square meters and 1,485 square meters respectively — along with a 27,258-square-meter open studio and artwork installations. The 1,485-square-meter indoor studio will be the first virtual production (VFX) studio in the Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province region, equipping the facility with cutting-edge filmmaking infrastructure.
